Ashton Kutcher recently sat with Howard Stern for a candid interview covering love and money, and it’s obvious that the 39-year-old actor and investor has come a long way since Dude, Where’s My Car? and Punk’d.

Ashton is now married to Mila Kunis, his former co-star with whom he had a troublesome onscreen romance on That ’70s Show. The best dialogue on that show always started with a whiney “Jackie!!” or “Kelso?!?”.

But there wasn’t always a real life romantic connection between the couple. In fact they’ve stated that their relationship transformed from co-stars, to “siblings”, to friends, to friends-with-benefits, to dating, to co-parents, before finally becoming a married couple. They got there in the end!

The actor recalled the strange start to their relationship: “I think I was her first kiss, like, on the show…It was really weird. I was like, ‘Isn’t this illegal?’ It was really awkward. She was 14! She was like my little sister. I wanted to make sure she was OK.”

The feeling was mutual at the time too. Although Mila thought he was “cute”, he was “annoying, like an older brother”. He also did her chemistry homework for her. Is all of this creepy or nice? I’m not sure.

Kunis and Kutcher both had 10-year relationships, with Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin and 90s bombshell Demi Moore respectively. Kutcher spoke about his divorce from Moore, saying that it hurts to not see her kids anymore after helping to raise them for 10 years. Understandably, Kutcher and Kunis were both not ready for a relationship when they started flirting at a party.

“She’s like, ‘You’re not ready to be in a relationship’ and I’m like, ‘I’m not ready to be a in a relationship’,” Ashton said. “It was funny because I’d just done this movie called No Strings Attached and she just did a movie called Friends With Benefits and we legitimately lived out our movies, which was virtually the same movie.”

So fiction became reality as fingers went into OK signs.

Along with That ’70s Show, there were simply too many things pulling the couple together. But they’re definitely not reluctant to display their love anymore. They now have two children and Bachelor date nights! Yep they’re in Bachelor Nation and even appeared on this season of the US series The Bachelorette. They helped current-Bachelorette Rachel Lindsay host an obstacle-filled husband Olympics on a group date.

The appearance on TV wasn’t novel for Kutcher, who stars in the hit show Two and A Half Men. Kutcher turned millions of heads when he replaced Charlie Sheen on the show. The movie star admitted even he was hesitant at first: “Here’s the thing: I was shocked I took the role in Two and a Half Men. I had no interest — I was doing movies.”

But he agreed with the promise of $755,000 per episode and a tonne of money to come from syndication deals after two years once the series was packaged, sold, and played and replayed globally.

“I’m faced with this decision I didn’t really see coming…It was a very, very, very nice payday,” said Kutcher.

Not as nice as Sheen’s used to be, though, as he was raking in $1.8 million per episode from the hit series. Ashton commented on Sheen’s departure and 2010 meltdown: “I don’t understand his choices, I don’t know that he’ll ultimately understand his choices, but he made the choice that he made. I think it was things he was putting in his body that were affecting his decision-making.”

Ashton multiplied his millions into even more millions with investments including shares in Uber and Airbnb. Despite rejecting Snapchat three times, his fortune has grown so much that he’s had to employ a team to manage his investments. Not bad for a cheeky dude who created the MTV series Punk’d to ruthlessly prank celebrities, hosting it for five years.

Kutcher has probably more than made up for his mischievous behaviour. He’s an outspoken figure who supports many charities and campaigns against sex trafficking, sexism, and pollution, to name a few.

He is also incredibly loving, protective and compassionate of his fraternal twin brother Michael, who has cerebral palsy and cardiomyopathy. Michael had a heart transplant when they were just children and Ashton feared for his twin brother so much that he considered suicide. Michael is now a motivational speaker and spokesperson for the advocacy organisation Reaching for the Stars and Ashton couldn’t be prouder.

So if you’ve ever discounted Ashton Kutcher as a dumb, annoying bro-dude, you can stand corrected*.

Legendary crocodile hunter and true blue Aussie hero Steve Irwin will receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year, forever commemorating his legacy. You beauty!

The new stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for 2018 will also include Jack Black, Kirsten Dunst, Zoe Saldana, Rupaul Charles, Snoop Dogg, Ice T, Jeff Goldblum and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Steve Irwin will be honoured for his nature documentaries and the television programs which featured his work in wildlife rehabilitation.

The nature expert’s animated, adventurous spirit lives on in his curious children Bindi and Robert, and his wife Terri. When the Walk of Fame Selection Committee announced the news this morning, the Irwin family were, as always, incredibly excited. True to form, they eagerly highlighted his humble yet inspirational personality and the ongoing effects of his conservation work.

“Steve always said that he didn’t care if anyone remembered him, as long as they remembered his message,” said American naturalist Terri Irwin. “I truly believe that this recognition for Steve’s achievements will ensure that his message of wildlife conservation is remembered.”

Despite his achievements and fame, Terri has always reinforced that Steve felt that he was an “ordinary bloke”.

“Dad changed the world by reaching out to people through their television screens to bring them on the adventure of a lifetime,” Bindi said.

Similarly, Robert added: “He was the best conservationist and inspired so many people and he was also the greatest dad in the world. I am so excited that everything he loved and was passionate about will carry on.”

The honour comes 12 years after Steve’s tragic death, which was caused by a strike to the heart by a stingray barb during filming. The whole Irwin family has since continued his conservation work at Australia Zoo.

Bindi was just 8 years old when he passed but spoke eloquently at his public memorial service. She went on to become a television presenter, conservationist, and actress.

Bindi also won the US series of Dancing with the Stars in 2015. Her first dance was a jive to ‘Crocodile Rock’ by Elton John, dedicated to her late father. The performance was completed with crocodile skin lighting on the dance floor, a khaki outfit for her dancing partner, and a shimmering green ballroom dress for the young star. Crikey!

Meanwhile, Robert, like his father, has brought animals onto late night talk shows. He appeared on The Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, bringing a sloth for Jimmy to cuddle. He looks very happy about it.

Robert also recently confused Steve Harvey on Family Feud with his thick Australia accent. Poor Robert had to repeat his answer “car” several times before his mum (or mom rather) said the word with an American “R”.

But step aside Steve Harvey, there’s only room for one Steve here. And that’ll be our Steve, the real-life crocodile hunter. From his serious delivery of silly tongue-in-cheek lines…

Jessica Chastain Call Cannes Films Representation of Women ‘Disturbing’

1e7f9 Chastain - Jessica Chastain Call Cannes Films Representation of Women ‘Disturbing’

A video of Jessica Chastain chastising Cannes films for their onscreen representation of women went viral yesterday. The video was taken by filmmaker Ava DuVernay during a press conference held Sunday after the annual awards were handed out.

Chastain’s comments came after her jury awarded Sofia Coppola the Best Director award for her film The Beguiling. Coppola of course became only the second woman to ever win that award, and first since 1961. During the press conference Chastain said “I do believe that if you have female storytelling you also have more authentic female characters. This is the first time I’ve watched 20 films in 10 days, and I love movies. And the one thing I really took away from this experience is how the world views women from the female characters that I saw represented. It was quite disturbing to me, to be honest.”

While not all of the films contributed to her opinion, she was still surprised by what she had seen. She also has hope for the future. “I do hope that when we include more female storytellers, we will have more of the women that I recognize in my day-to-day life. Ones that are proactive, have their own agencies, don’t just react to the men around them. They have their own point of view.”

This isn’t the first time Chastain has spoken out about the issue. The 40-year-old actress wrote an essay for The Hollywood Reporter in 2015 while filming The Zookeeper’s Wife, stating then that she wanted to see more women behind the camera. She’s also been one of the driving forces behind Freckle Films, a productions company that aim to help promote women in film.

Spotify Predicts The Song Of Summer 2017

727d3 katy perry - Spotify Predicts The Song Of Summer 2017

Every summer there are songs that define it. Music that brings back images of where you were and what you were doing when they were big. It’s a position musicians love, because it gives their music an immortality that can be at time hard to get. Predicting this music can be hard to do, but Spotify has taken it upon themselves to give it a try for the Summer of 2017. And among their predictions are songs by Lady Gaga, Selena Gomez, Kendrick Lamar and Imagine Dragons.

The streaming music service released a press release stating that there were  “tapping the insights of its genre and trend experts, analyzing its streaming data, and considering factors such as a song’s performance on the charts, on key Spotify playlists, and how it’s performing over time. The team also factored in buzz on social media to create a list of songs perfect for essential summer moments.”

Spotify’s list includes: “Bad Liar” by Selena Gomez,  “Strip That Down” by Liam Payne ft. Quavo,  “I’m The One” by DJ Khaled ft. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper, Lil Wayne,  “Crying in The Club” by Camila Cabello, “The Cure” by Lady Gaga, “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” by Shawn Mendes, “Swish Swish” by Katy Perry ft. Nicki Minaj,  “Mask Off” by Future, “Thunder” by Imagine Dragons, “DNA” by Kendrick Lamar, “Slow Hands” by Niall Horan, “Despacito” (Remix) by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee ft. Justin Bieber,  “Malibu” by Miley Cyrus, “1-800-273-8255” by Logic ft. Alessia Cara, Khalid and  “XO TOUR Llif3” by Lil Uzi Vert.

Of course some of these tracks are already currently on continuous play over the airwaves, and on multiple playlists. And we won’t really know which song will be considered the Song of the Summer until the end of the August. But it’s nice to be prepared isn’t it? Especially if you are going to hear the song over and over again for the next few months.

Wonder Woman And The Top Grossing Films Directed By A Woman

833a4 wonder woman - Wonder Woman And The Top Grossing Films Directed By A Woman

Wonder Woman opened to huge numbers this weekend, and its $100 million opening is the biggest ever by a female director. Director Patty Jenkins must be ecstatic.  If it keeps up at this pace (and honestly the film is so good it probably will), it could very easily become the top grossing film ever directed by a woman. What is its competition you ask? Well let’s take a look.

Frozen: Ok, including this animated Disney flick is entirely fair, considering it was co-directed by a woman. Still however, its over $400 million haul at the box office is within easy reach. Wonder Woman is already a quarter of the way there.

Shrek: This 2001 Mike Myers hit was also c0-directed by a woman. We’re sensing a pattern here. Good animated film, with strong female leads, equals success. The first in the series of films grossed over $267 million.

Twilight: Ok, finally, we get to a solo female directed film. The first film in this very successful franchise hauled in over $192 million and set the tone for the rest of the series.

Pitch Perfect 2: Elizabeth Banks is a successful actresses, and a successful director. Really is there anything she can’t do? It’s a shame she had to back out of making the third film in the series, because this one was so good it tops $183 million.

What Women Want: Back when Mel Gibson was actually a bankable star, he starred in this film by Nancy Meyers about a man gets the ability to hear women’s thoughts. It was a huge hit, making over #182 million.

Fifty Shades of Grey: Unfortunately over half of this film’s gross came on opening weekend, and it dropped off steadily from there. Still, it ended up making over $166 million, and until Wonder Woman beat it this weekend, it was the highest opening ever by a female director.

Breaking Bad To Return As A Virtual Reality Experience

a8531 breaking bad - Breaking Bad To Return As A Virtual Reality Experience

If you didn’t get enough of Walter White, Jesse Pinkman, and the rest of the Breaking Bad team as it aired over the course of 5 seasons and 62 episodes, you might just be in luck. The series could be returning in virtual reality.

It was announced yesterday that the creator of the show, Vince Gilligan, is teaming with Sony’s Playstation to create a non-game, virtual reality experience that will be based on the show. What that exactly means they aren’t saying, nor are they releasing any information on which talent will be a part of it. All that is known is that Gilligan is intrigued with the idea of using virtual reality as a storytelling device and is looking forward to experimenting with the platform. At this time the series won’t be a live action video either, as production using those tools are not yet available. The show will be made using computer graphics of some kind.

This isn’t Sony Interactive Entertainment’s first foray into making more than just video games. In 2015 they released Powers, which was their first scripted original program. It was cancelled after two seasons.  Sony’s VR headset was released in October of last year, and while there are only a limited amount of games available for it at this time, it is something the company plans on expanding.

Will Tom Cruise’s Latest Film The Mummy Flop?

d697e The Mummy - Will Tom Cruise’s Latest Film The Mummy Flop?

Every year studios try to win audiences over with new special effects laden films based on old ideas starring big names. One such film this year is The Mummy, a reboot of a long time successful franchise by Universal, which is supposed to be a lead in to a whole Dark Movie Universe franchise. And of course it has a big name star, this time around it’s Tom Cruise. It’s got the name, it’s got the actor, and it’s got the big budget, but will it be enough to win people over? Probably not, because Hollywood needs to face a few facts.

  1. The first thing Hollywood needs to accept is that some actors just don’t have the pull they once did. Tom Cruise really can only be called successful the last few years because of his Mission Impossible films. Anything else just seems to fall flat. And really, every film he’s in these days just seems to be a carbon copy of the last. Tom Cruise running, Tom Cruise making a whitty comeback, Tom Cruise doing unbelievable stunts. And it’s not just him, Johnny Depp has fallen from grace, Mel Gibson isn’t a draw, Arnold Schwarzenegger’s not a dominate force and Wil Smith doesn’t put as many people in theatres as he once did. It’s not that all of these actors are one trick ponies (some are though), but just that people have gotten sick of seeing them doing  the same thing. If you want to make a successful film try picking someone new and hot, instead of someone who has been around for a long time.
  2. Another thing Hollywood needs to start doing to draw more people to their movies, and something that would save them a lot of money, is to stop thinking that big budget means big rewards. Just because there are huge explosions, big gun fights and amazing car chases, it doesn’t mean people will come out to see your film. There has to be a decent story in these somewhere to keep the audience involved. And if there isn’t a decent story, people are going to see right through it and rip it apart. In other words Hollywood, story needs to trump everything else.
  3. When Marvel decided to make a cinematic universe they did it right. They started small, and slowly built it together. Iron Man came out, and you saw hints of a bigger world around him (especially after the credits) but they didn’t spend half the movie leading up to the next movies. In fact they hardly spent any time on it at all. One of the big problems with The Mummy is that they open their world quickly, and make you wait for the next movies to see everything else. Iron Man was mostly a self contained film, The Mummy unfortunately is not.
  4. Hollywood also has to stop with all the reboots and sequels. Last year they thought a sequel to Independence Day would be a huge hit, but it flopped horribly. It’s rare for a movie franchise to keep going year after after like the Fast and Furious movies.  And even the latest film in that franchise wasn’t as successful as the previous one. People even seem to be going through superhero overdose these days, so it won’t be surprising to see them falling down a notch and losing a bit of popularity (for instance last years X-Men: Apocalypse was a huge disappointment.) In some cases reboots do work, like Jurassic World, but it most cases they just aren’t as good as the original.

Unfortunately even if The Mummy fails these types of movies will continue to be made. Copycats, reboots and sequels, have been around almost as long as movies have been made, and if they haven’t learned by now, they never will. Still, it’s nice to dream.

3565c Bachelor CAnada - Former Blue Jay Chris Leroux Is The New Bachelor Canada

The W Network announced last evening that former Blue Jay farmhand Chris Leroux is the next star of Bachelor Canada.

The 33 year old Leroux is a Montreal native, and current resident of Mississauga, ON. He played in the major leagues for six seasons for the Florida Marlina, Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees. Over the course of that time he had a 1-3 career record with a 6.03 earned-run average in 71 2/3 innings pitched with 66 strikeouts. He also played minor league ball for the Milwaukee Brewers, Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays, and spent time in Japan. His biggest accomplishment during his career was winning a gold medal while playing for Canada at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.

The 6’1 Leroux recently decided to hang up the spikes, and now finds himself searching for true love among the 20 bachelorettes vying for his heart. The series is set to premiere this fall on the W Network.
